Rep. Mark Amodei received the National Guard Association of the United States’ Charles Dick Medal of Merit from Brig. Gen. Bill Burks, the Adjutant General for Nevada, on June 2.
Burks presented the award on behalf of the association with several board members of the Nevada National Guard Association and Amodei’s staff in attendance.
Amodei was nominated by members of the Nevada National Guard Association. They cited Amodei’s support of Senate Bill 306, which provided in-state tuition for active Nevada National Guard service members and Amodei’s co-sponsoring of about five bills that resulted in increased pay and benefits and secured hiring rights for veterans.
In order to be eligible for the award, an individual must be a member of a state legislative body, the U.S. Congress or a state governor, and have directly and positively impacted the future of the National Guard.
Past recipients are Rep. James Bilbray in 1992; Gov. Bob Miller and Sen. Harry Reid in 1993; Rep. Barbara Vucanovich in 1995; Sen. Richard Bryan in 1996; Rep. James Gibbons in 1999; Assemblyman Bernard “Bernie” Anderson, state Sen. Bob Coffin and Sen. John Ensign in 2007; and Gov. Brian Sandoval in 2012.
