Dayton woman critically hurt in gun accident

A Dayton woman was critically wounded when her son’s gun accidentally discharged, shooting her in a leg.

Lyon County sheriff’s deputies say the accident occurred Thursday when the son was showing his new gun to his father.

Investigators told KOLO-TV the young man pulled the gun out of the holster when it went off.

The woman was flown by Careflight medical helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno after the 3:30 p.m. accident.

According to a Careflight official, the woman’s injuries were critical.

No one was taken into custody.

The names of the family members were not immediately released.
