Lack of noise standards hurts our quality of life

I would like to agree with the letter of a few weeks ago that requested that Carson City implement a noise control ordinance. I would also like to have the ordinance include excess noise emanating from residences as well as automobiles.

As I am composing this letter, I am being entertained by the drumbeat of the so-called music that is coming from the residence across the street from me. All of my windows and doors are closed, yet I can still hear the noise as if I was playing it in my own home. As the previous writer stated, there is no point in complaining as there is no law against it and I do not want to let them know that they are bothering me or it will only get louder — after all, who will stop it?

Another issue that should be addressed is the excess noise/disruption that home-based contractors are allowed to generate — in residential neighborhoods at virtually any time — as they are loading equipment and materials for the day’s jobs. I have observed this as early as 5:45 a.m.

I am not a big fan of government getting involved in every issue, but when some residents feel they do not need to be considerate of others, it is time for city government to provide some relief for the majority of residents that are. After all, what would the quality of life be in Carson City if all residents were as inconsiderate as some?
