Carson City father, son arrested in alleged extortion plot

A Carson City father and son were arrested on three felony warrants after allegedly abducting a man in an extortion plot.

According to Sheriff Ken Furlong:

Brent Michael Martin, 18, and his father, Michael, 39, held a man at knifepoint and drove to the homes of the man’s acquaintances throughout Carson City. They ordered the man to ask his acquaintances for money.

“There were some strong indications of battery,” Furlong said, adding, “Everybody for a period of time had given different stories and lied, including the victim, until we were able to get to the bottom of it.”

The incident was drug-related and occurred about a month ago, Furlong said.

The pair were arrested on felony robbery, kidnapping and conspiracy warrants out of Carson City. Bail was set at $150,000 each.

They remained at the Carson City Jail on Wednesday morning.
