Carson City man arrested for allegedly stealing car

A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday on two felony counts for allegedly stealing a car.

According to the man’s arrest report:

Deputies went to the location as part of an investigation, and Jonathan Baumgardner told them that he’d allowed his sister to drive a stolen vehicle that she’d been arrested in. His sister consented to a search of her property and showed deputies a set of four rims and tires on her back patio.

The deputy contacted Baumgardner, saying he thought the tires and rims had been removed from a vehicle that had been stolen and later recovered in Carson City. Baumgardner admitted to having stolen a green Honda near Arrowhead Drive. After further interviews, he admitted to additional vehicle thefts.

Baumgardner said he’d brought the Honda to his sister’s home, then dropped it off at a nearby apartment complex. He said he’d removed the vehicle’s tires, rims and radio, as well as some lights.

Baumgardner was arrested at 4:41 p.m. on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property and felony grand larceny auto. He remained at the Carson City Jail on Friday.

Also arrested was Baumgardner’s sister’s boyfriend, a 29-year-old Carson City man. He came out of the bathroom of the home, and a sergeant learned he was on an alternative-sentencing agreement that barred him from having contact with the woman.

He was arrested on suspicion of violation of bail conditions and felon failure to register. Bail was set at $3,150.
