A beautiful new barber’s pole is at Grenige’s corner, but Grenige’s pole is square, not round. The true barber’s pole is round and represents an arm which is being phlebotomized, with the fillet of what represents the bandage about it. In former times, a basin was suspended from the pole indicating the presence of all the needful utensils of the barber-surgeon’s art. Peter of Brosse was first barber and then Prime Minister to Phillip the Bold of France, but he got to playing over the limits, and they hanged him. This last should be a warning to all barbers to keep well out of politics.

Mrs. Bowers, the Washoe Seeress, is at room 88 Arlington House and will remain until Friday during which time she will reveal the future and give mediumistic sittings.

The Orphans Home is bewailing the loss of the finest milk cow. The animal broke her way into the alfalfa patch which had been frozen, which resulted in bloat from which the cow died. Mrs. Josephs states that the cow was the finest in the herd and will be hard to replace.

Ninety thousand trout have been brought to the ponds at the Ormsby County hospital from the Verdi hatchery ... 60,000 Rainbow trout and 30,000 of the Eastern Brook trout ... to be distributed late this fall in the rivers and streams of Ormsby County.

District Attorney Henry Wade concedes that Jack Ruby, condemned slayer of Lee Harvey Oswald, has deteriorated physically and mentally since his trial, but remains legally sane.
