Memorial Day activities planned

Disabled American Veterans, Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will place U.S. flags on veterans’ graves starting at 4 p.m. Friday at Veterans Cemetery located in the Lone Mountain Cemetery. Flags will be available to those who want to post one on veterans’ graves in other areas of the cemetery. The flags will be removed from the graves at 4 p.m. Monday. The public is encouraged to participate in placement and removal of the flags. Call Ron Gutzman at 775-882-6528.

The nonprofit Warren Engine Co. No. 1 will hold a fundraiser Saturday and Sunday at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad steam locomotive No. 25 will operate train rides 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Monday. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and sodas will be served from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days at the train depot. Warren Engine Company items will be available for sale.

Carson City’s detachment of the Marine Corps League will hold a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Stewart Indian Cemetery. Call Chaplin Don Podlas at 775-790-0260.

Evergreen Gene’s, 1811 N. Carson St., will host its sixth annual Memorial Day barbecue, offering hot dogs, hamburgers, sides, watermelons and beverages, on Monday. Bob Lambert will provide live entertainment. Veterans and active military personnel can receive a 25 percent discount on all purchases. Call Gene or Rowena at 775-882-1807.
