LAS VEGAS — Nevada gambling regulators are standing firm on their stance that casino operators shouldn’t get involved in the state’s medical marijuana industry.
Members of the Nevada Gaming Commission voted 2-0 Thursday to affirm a notice sent earlier this month on the topic. It said licensees getting involved in medical marijuana business could reflect discredit on the state’s gambling industry.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Gaming Control Board has no intention of rewriting the notice. The memo noted that while the state has legalized dispensaries, federal law still prohibits manufacturing and distributing marijuana.
The decision came after gambling license holders including M Resort CEO Anthony Marnell urged regulators to change their tune on the issue. A company partially owned by Marnell had applied for a medical marijuana business license.
