Nevada House delegation united on medical pot

RENO — All four of Nevada’s U.S. House members voted in favor of an amendment the House has passed blocking the federal government from interfering with states that permit the use of medical marijuana.

Reps. Mark Amodei and Joe Heck were among 49 Republicans who joined 170 Democrats in support of the measure approved in a roll call vote of 219-189. That included Nevada Democrats Steve Horsford and Dina Titus.

Nearly half of the states have legalized marijuana for medical uses, including Nevada.

The state made it legal in 2000, but only now is moving forward with regulations to legalize a regulatory and distribution system for the medical marijuana. Previously, the only way for Nevada patients to get the pot legally was to grow it themselves.
