Down to China. For the last month workmen have been engaged in prospecting west of the Savage works for a solid foundation to put the monster engine for the new hoisting works. The engine will be placed across the railroad track sufficiently high to clear the smokestacks of the locomotive. The company is making preparations to sink down 4,000 to 6,000 feet (Virginia Daily Independent).

Newly-discovered American Indian artifacts have been discovered during the construction of a 3.5 mile Hoover Dam bypass and will delay construction by five months. If the land is “traditional cultural property” of one of the 13 Colorado River area tribes, further steps may need to be taken to minimize damage that will result from construction.
