Nevada high court fast-tracks Uber venue question

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Supreme Court is fast-tracking a ruling on whether state courts in Reno or Las Vegas should properly hear an attempt by state taxi regulators to prevent ride-sharing company Uber Technologies from operating in the state.

Meanwhile, a pair of powerful Las Vegas taxi companies — Bell Limo and Whittlesea Checker Taxi — submitted documents to the high court on Wednesday seeking to join the fight against Uber.

Three justices said Tuesday they want written arguments on the venue question by noon Friday.

That could give them time to rule before a hearing next week before Washoe County District Court Judge Scott Freeman in Reno.

Freeman issued a temporary order for Uber to stop operating, while Clark County District Court Judge Douglas Herndon in Las Vegas did not.
