‘Active assailant response’ training Sunday at Carson City Courthouse

Today, the Carson City Fire Department, Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Alternative Sentencing will be conducting “Active Assailant Response” training at the Carson City Courthouse on Musser Street. The two-day training event will focus on response to an active assailant incident using a unified approach.

The First Judicial District Court, Carson City Justice/Municipal Court, Clerk/Recorder and multiple fire and law enforcement agencies from area jurisdictions will be participating.

The training is intended to integrate personnel from various agencies in Carson City and neighboring jurisdictions to an actual active assailant or other critical incident in order to be better prepared. Additionally, this exercise will allow Courthouse staff to test their training and safety procedures.

Citizens play a critical role in creating a safe environment by observing the reporting any suspicious and criminal activity to the Sheriff’s Office. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office recommends citizens do not participate in any direct verbal or physical involvement with a suspicious person or those who are committing crimes. The personal safety of the community is paramount.

The public is encouraged to avoid the area to allow this simulated active assailant exercise to test the skills and capabilities of emergency medical and law enforcement response.
