Well, the football games are over, our guests have gone home, the turkey is gone, except for a pile of leftovers, and the Black Friday sales are over. Now what?
Unfortunately most of our holidays (originally “holy days”) are no longer viewed as holy and have become much more secular than intended. As Thanksgiving now means turkey and football, Christmas vacation has become “winter break” and Easter vacation is now “spring break.” One is for presents, and the other for candy.
Unfortunately, even if these days are thought of in a spiritual way, as soon as the calendar turns, it’s all back to the daily routine.
My challenge is to try to let the spirit of the holiday continue on. For example, after Thanksgiving we could remember the words of the apostle Paul in Colossians 2:6-7: “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”
Thanksgiving needs to become a way of life, not just one day!
