Senator Square: Flu shots offered this week at Carson High School

“The House of Bernalda Alba” is being performed by CHS theater students at the Carson City Community Center. The dramatic play will continue this coming weekend with performances at 7 p.m. on Oct. 9, 10, 11 and at 2 p.m. on the Oct. 11. General admission prices are $10 at the door, $5 for students. Coming up on Oct. 21 at the Community Center is the first instrumental concert. Come listen to the various bands perform a variety of music. Mariachi, jazz, orchestra and wind ensemble groups will all perform that night at 7 p.m. Contact band director Bill Zabelsky for more information at bzabelsky@carson.k12.nv.us.

Also coming up is the first choir concert performance on Oct. 22 at the Community Center. A variety of songs will be performed by the concert, chamber, choir I & II groups, as well as both musical theater classes. A suggested donation of $4 admission fee will be charged that will go directly back to the choir department.

FLU VACCINATIONS at CHS

Flu vaccinations are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at CHS. Paperwork has been sent home with the students and need to be returned the day of the vaccination. Vaccine administration fee is $20 if your child’s insurance does not cover the vaccinations, or your child does not have insurance.

A phone message will be sent next week to remind parents of the school based flu vaccination clinics. If you have any questions please call the school nurse, Sheila Story, at 283-1675.

HOST FAMILIES SOUGHT

Want to learn more about culture and customs in Europe? South America? Asia? Then host a Rotary Youth Exchange student. Each year, two or three students from different parts of the world are sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Carson City and attend Carson High School.

Each student lives with two or three local families throughout their school year, spending three to five months with each family. If you are interested in hosting an interesting young adult from another country please contact Chas Macquarie of the Carson City Rotary Club at cmacquarie@lumosengineering.com.

LIP SYNC TICKETS

All right Carson High, we’ve already had our Lip Sync auditions and I have to say this year’s groups are pretty awesome. If you don’t believe me, go see for yourself.

You can buy your tickets for the Lip Sync before school, during nutrition, at lunch or after school in the Student Finance Office. Tickets are $3 with your SBC sticker and $4 without, up until the day of the Lip Sync. Tickets will go up to $5 at the door on Oct. 14 at the Community Center.

If you participate in this month’s Socktober and bring a new set of socks to donate at the door, your ticket price will be discounted to $3.

OCTOBER PINK

Hey Carson, it is a tradition to wear pink on Mondays in October to raise awareness about breast cancer. Please join the cause and sport your pink. If you want a Senators fight cancer T-shirt... they still are available in room 256 for $10. Get yours today. Don’t forget to wear pink on Monday.

Are you interested in serving the community? Then the INTERACT Club is for you. Come see what service is planned for the INTERACT club Thursday at lunch in room 256.

UNIVERSITY VISIT

A representative from Grand Canyon University will be visiting Carson High on Friday, during AB55. This is a private Christian University in Phoenix, Ariz. If you’re interested in this type of school, please come by the Guidance Office to get a pass so you can join us.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

This week’s student of the week is Nick Campbell. Nick is a freshman at Carson High. He’s a positive student who gives everything his best effort. Nick never hesitates to ask if a student or faculty member needs help, and is willing to lend a hand whenever it’s needed. You rock Nick!

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

This week’s Senior Spotlight is on Bailey Griffin. Bailey has a 4.51 grade-point average and is currently taking a variety of advanced-placement and honors classes. Bailey has been a member of National Honor Society since she was a sophomore and is serving as the public relations officer.

Bailey has been involved in concert band, wind ensemble, and marching band throughout her years in high school.

She’s a 4-H member and received the 4-H 2013 Teen Leader Award. Bailey is also involved in her church youth group. Bailey plans on attending Harding University in Arkansas and is interested in marriage and family therapy.

Thanks Bailey for all your contributions to Carson High School and the Carson community.

CHS is proud of the contributions Bailey has made to her school and community and wish her the best of luck in the future.
