A motorcyclist died Wednesday night after colliding with a wild horse in Silver Springs.

Stefan R. Sobkiewicz, 49, of Silver Springs has been identified as the man killed last Wednesday night after his motorcycle collided with a wild horse in Silver Springs.

The 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle struck the horse in the westbound travel lane at about 8:25 p.m. – after dark.

The unidentified biker was thrown from the cycle into the eastbound lanes of the highway. Three passenger vehicles were unable to avoid hitting the victim as he lay in the roadway. All three drivers stopped and tried to assist the biker but he died at the scene.

NHP Trooper Davie Gibson said drugs and alcohol were not involved. The horse also was critically injured and had to be destroyed.

Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this tragic event.
