Instead of a dump truck full of Carson High School Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Cadets, there were ten dump truck loads of garbage hauled to the dump.
Chief Ingram reported for duty with 97 NJROTC Cadets from Carson High School along with a total of 44 Kiwanians, Boy Scouts and volunteers came together for the annual Carson River Cleanup.
Bill Knight representing Kiwanis Club of Carson City with Ron Bowman and Rob Scanland representing Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada were the co-chairmen for the 25th Anniversary of the Carson River Cleanup.
Dan Erbes with the BLM addressed the group advising them to be safe.
“We picked up appliances, televisions, three sofas, with two large piles of household garbage along with anything you can imagine,” Bowman said.
“This year we picked up 30 cubic yards plus ten dump truck runs to the dump,” Scanland said.
Bill Knight contracted a severe case of Buck Fever. So, Alice Magdaleno, treasurer for Kiwanis of Carson City told the volunteers, “With several years of drought, today’s cleanup will be less challenging. In fact the river hasn’t flowed in so long the old timers forgot which way it flows.”
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. Today, Carson City’s two Kiwanis Clubs with 141 volunteers “Uniting the Carson River Watershed and its people.”
