South Meadows shooting range reopens under new ownership

Northern Nevada’s only indoor shooting range has a new owner.

Chris Parker, chief executive officer of Jack Ross Industries LLC, completed purchase of the shooting range at 9425 Double R Blvd. last month and renamed the business Big Shot Indoor Range.

Purchasing the business was a perfect fit for Jack Ross Ammunition, says Parker, who supplied ammo to the former ownership of the range. The 6,000-square-foot range has 10 shooting lanes and a retail operation for gun rental, ammunition purchase.

In addition to rebranding the business, Parker created a new Web site and is increasing the shop’s gunsmithing services and educational classes. He’s also done advertising on local radio stations and on a billboard near Colfax heading east up Interstate 80.

“I was a vendor for the range, making and selling ammunition, and this is the logical next step,” he says. “Word had got out that the range had shut down under the former ownership, but there wasn’t much buzz surrounding its reopening.”

Parker says the range formerly focused on drawing out-of-state tourists to the range to shoot full automatic weapons, which are banned in California. Big Shot plans to cater to local gun users through aggressive price reductions on gun and lane rentals and ammunition sales. Costs are $10 a lane, with pistol rental starting at $10 and separate fees for ammunition. Shooters can bring their own ammunition as well.

“We are a full-service gun store with classes, ammunition and gunsmithing,” he says. “We will spend a lot of time and money improving the customer experience here, including new soundproofing, lighting and changing the appearance. We want to be a destination on par with Scheel’s or Cabela’s.”

Katrina Loftin-Winkel, managing director of BTI Mergers & Acquisitions, represented the buyer and seller in the transaction.
