Sierra Desert Garden Club helps area programs

President Jeanne Russell introduced this year’s Sierra Desert Garden Club officers at its first meeting of the year this week.

Andrea Touyarot is first vice president; Liz Skogerson and Terry Horgan are second vice presidents; Ingrid Rooker is secretary; and Carol Eyre is treasurer.

The group also presented $500 to Carson High School’s culinary arts team to help it in the State and National Championships; $500 to The Greenhouse Project; and $400 to help sponsor the flower baskets that line downtown Carson Street.

Now into its 38th year, the club has 24 members who meet nine times during the year to learn about various gardening and landscaping techniques plus the many varieties of seasonal plants and flowers, both ornamental and edible.
