A floodplain management forum is scheduled on Earth Day, April 22, in the Dayton Valley Community Center.
The public is invited with an event registration charge of $10 by Wednesday, $15 after that, for the 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. forum with lunch and snacks included on that date, according to organizers. The organizers are the Carson River Coalition and the Carson Water Subconservancy District. The Dayton Community Center is at 170 Pike St. in “Old Town” Dayton.
Rob Palmer, Nevada state floodplain manager, is keynote speaker for the forum. Welcoming comments are expected from Ed James, subconservancy general manager, and Brenda Hunt, subconservancy watershed program manager and the coalition coordinator. Forum topics include:
Various flood and floodplain restoration projects; FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) floodplain mapping; National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration flood inundation mapping information; Nevada Department of Transportation Clear Creek stormwater projects; the Truckee River flood project, and the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s floodplain projection progress map.
