The robbery case. The Supreme Court met yesterday at 8 o’clock and revoked their order of the night before on a stay of proceedings in the Lyon County stage robbery case. Chief Justice Lewis and Judge Borsnan concurred with Judge Beatty dissenting.

130 years ago

Mathias Schmith of Battle Mountain went to his cupboard as was his wont to take his morning drink and instead took a dram of carbolic acid instead of bitters. Medical aid was summoned and everything possible done, but all to no avail, as the dose proved fatal in a half an hour.

100 years ago

Residents living in the vicinity of Third Street, east of Carson, are complaining vociferously over the condition of the sewer that passes through that avenue. There seems to be an insufficient supply of water for flushing purposes and as a result offal and other matter remains in the ditch and putrefies, creating stench, and flies and breeding disease.

70 years ago

Kenneth Johnson was named general chairman of the Nevada Day celebration, with Bernard Hartung appointed vice chairman. A secretary, who will be a woman from the Business and Professional Women’s Club, and a treasurer will be named later.

U.S. Sen. Paul Laxalt said today he will not seek a third term in office, but remained confident the Republican Party will retain the seat he is vacating.
