BANN to host housing forum

The Builders Association of Northern Nevada will present a Housing Forum 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the Atlantis Casino Resort.

The forum will discuss the opportunities and challenges ahead as job growth in northern Nevada is poised to take off over the next five years creating housing challenges. How will the industry fulfill the anticipated need for 50,000 new housing units? Are local governments prepared for this population growth? Are developers able to meet this demand? What are the next steps — and what must those in the construction industry do to respond to the challenges?

Panelists will give brief comments on their outlooks and expectations followed by an open question-and-answer period.

Panelists confirmed to attend are:

• Bruce Breslow, director, Nevada Department of Business and Industry on “Job Creation and Anticipated Housing Needs.”

Governor Brian Sandoval appointed Breslow in 2012 to the department, which oversees 14 diverse regulatory and administrative divisions. He was born in Sparks and served as the city’s mayor from 1991-1999.

• Perry Di Loreto, Di Loreto Homes on “Development Challenges – 2016 and Beyond”

For the past 36 years, Di Loreto Homes of Nevada, founded by brothers Perry and Tom Di Loreto, has built thousands of homes, apartments, condominiums and professional parks.

• Ron Smith, Sparks city councilman on “Planning for Growth from a Governmental Perspective”

Smith was elected to the city council in 2006. He served as chair of the Sparks Redevelopment Agency and is currently the mayor pro tempore.

• Dwight Millard, branch manager at Academy Mortgage Corporation on “Regulatory Hurdles Affecting Lending.”

Since 1989, Millard has experience both in real estate sales, specializing in new homes, and negotiating home loan products. Academy Mortgage is a top nationally ranked independent mortgage lender.
