Show refugees what love is

Our Lady Liberty. Our gift from France. What is our gift to the world? Freedom from oppression. I am not ignorant. I am not running for political office. I do know I have cried every day since the Paris attacks. I have cried because of the brutality and inhumanity and I have cried because of the love and humanity. It is easy to say there is no more room in the lifeboat when you are already in it.

The Syrian refugees are the homeless and tempest tossed. (How many generations are you from the huddled masses)? They are fleeing the very same people you are afraid of. Love will conquer hate; 180 million Americans identify with Christianity. Should we all be held in fear because Timothy McVeigh called himself a Christian? Fred Phelps was a Kansan. Are all Kansans part of a hate group? Just because a “church” calls itself Baptist does not mean it follows the Biblical principles of love. It is hate you should be standing up against; hate and fear.

I live in the United States of America, and I want her to be a country that acts and does not just react. Love will conquer hate. Lift your lamp of love and open the golden door. Look beyond your fear, wash away the hate, and show the Syrians what love is. Show Muslims what love is. Show Christians what love is. Show you neighbor what love is. Love will conquer hate.
