UNR Class of ’66 remembers fallen classmate

Carson Valley scion Bruce Park said he remembers fraternity brother Mike Ingersoll like it was yesterday, even though the University of Nevada student body president died in a skydiving accident 50 years ago.

Members of Park’s class are remembering Ingersoll’s Dec. 18, 1965, death at Carson City Airport.

Park and Ingersoll were Alpha Tau Omega brothers in the mid-1960s.

According to Park, Ingersoll had been elected student body president the prior spring.

Among his accomplishments was a blood drive for soldiers serving in Vietnam which resulted in 394 pints donated. He was chairman of the John F. Kennedy book drive that raised $100,000 for UNR, according to a 2005 story appearing in Silver and Blue Magazine written by Scott Mortimore.

A bronze plaque in the ATO house has Ingersoll’s likeness and a quote from friend and University of Nevada English Professor John Morrison.

“Few of us will attain, in the fullness of age, the proud record of this man who did so much in so little time.”
