Recommendations that an abandonment and a subdivision map for seven attached townhomes be approved came Wednesday from the Carson City Planning Commission.
The commission voted 6-0 and 5-1 on two items that would clear the way for Wayne Lepire to put the seven, two-story units and a common area on 15,609 square feet of property in the vicinity of East Caroline, East Robinson and Anderson streets if the Board of Supervisors follows the commission’s recommendations.
The commission’s 6-0 approval came on a proposal to abandon right-of-way about nine feet wide and 170 feet long that is along the west boundary of Anderson Street between Robinson and Caroline. The 5-1 vote, with Commissioner Victor Castro dissenting, was on the recommendation to approve the tentative subdivision map for the project.
Commissioner Daniel Salerno succeeded in adding a condition that would inhibit long-term parking of recreational vehicles or utility trailers in driveways in front of the units.
In other action, the commission voted unanimously to approve a special use permit for an 80-foot tall wireless telecommunications monopole on property just south of the Courtyard by Marriott lodging facility on property zoned general commercial at 3910 S. Carson St. Planning Manager Susan Pansky said staff felt a monopole would be less conspicuous than a mono-pine tree alternative pole.
“While you can see it,” she said of a monopole, “it doesn’t stand out.”
The planning commission decisions on special use permits stand without going to the city’s governing board unless there is an appeal of such SUP approvals.
