Carson City holiday help

The Salvation Army serving Carson City and Douglas County is seeking volunteers to work with families on gift distribution day, Dec. 22. Information can be found at www.carsoncitysalarmy.org, or by calling Christie at 775-887-9120.

Scarves, gloves and hats for the homeless in Carson City are being collected through the winter at Dream Dinners, 123 Clearview Drive; Grocery Outlet, 1831 N. Carson St.; and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 62. Dream Dinners is closed the week of Christmas.

The Toys for Tots Hotline to families in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties is open. If a family is in need of toys, call 775-737-1171 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Toys for Tots seeks toys through Dec. 24.

Five locations of Michael Hohl are accepting donations for Toys for Tots. Donations can be dropped at Michael Hohl Motor Company, 3700 S. Carson St.; Michael Hohl Subaru, 2910 S. Carson St.; Michael Hohl Honda, 2800 S. Carson St.; Michael Hohl RV Sales

4500 N. Carson St.; and Michael Hohl RV Service, 4455 S. Carson St.

Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) is a drop-off location for Toys for Tots. Bring new and unwrapped toys to the NRHA office, 3695 Desatoya Drive.

Michael Hohl Subaru, 2910 S. Carson St., is collecting socks for the Reno Ruff Ryders second annual Sock Drive. For more information, call the Reno Ruff Ryders at 775-275-0626 or 775-450-6490.

The 2nd Annual Gifts for Seniors drive, organized by 10-year-old Breanna De Luca, is ongoing. De Luca is collecting slippers, robes, blankets and stuffed animals for residents in need. Drop items by Dec. 23 at Ormsby Post Acute Rehab, 3050 N. Ormsby Blvd. Call 775-220-2064.

Carson City Toyota Scion is a drop off location for Toys for Tots. Drop off any unwrapped toy or cash donation, before Dec. 22, at Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota Scion, 2590 S. Carson St., and be entered in a drawing to win a $250 gas card.

Evergreen Gene’s, 1811 N. Carson St., is hosting a sock and glove tree for the Do Drop In Center, which provides items to the homeless and less fortunate. Food, socks, gloves, scarves and pet food are being accepted through December. Call Gene or Rowena at 775-882-1807.

Greater Nevada Credit Union is accepting new pairs of children’s shoes through Dec. 24 for the Salvation Army.

Through Dec. 28, Smith’s Food & Drug customers can add a $1, $5 or $10 donation to their grocery orders to help local food banks this holiday season. For more information, go to www.smithsfoodanddrug.com.

Fingerprinting Express, 1958 E. William St., is collecting new coats for Carson High School’s McKinney-Vento Students in Transition program.

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettles are accepting store gift cards this year. Gift cards can be used as gifts for children in dollar amounts of $10, $20, $50, etc., or if you have a dollar or two left on a gift card, you can drop it in a Red Kettle. Salvation Army officials stress any contribution, including donations of time are accepted as gratefully as donations of money.

The nonprofit Wishes & Angels of Northern Nevada is collecting donations of Christmas gifts for area families. To help, go to www.facebook.com/groups/wishesangelsnorthernnevada.

Carson City Center for Healthy Aging is sponsoring Christmas trees at Walmart in Gardnerville and Topsy Lane; Smith’s in Carson City, Gardnerville and Dayton; and Medcare Pharmacy and Bank of the West in Carson City to collect donations for area seniors. To help, choose an ornament from a tree and buy the gift request. Home Instead Senior Care staff and other volunteers will wrap and deliver gifts.
