Workshop sheds light on ear infections

Advanced Chiropractic and Wellness Center, 3232 Carmine St., is hosting a free workshop about ear infections at 6 p.m. Feb. 18.

The event is an interactive community workshop sponsored by the National Wellness Foundation. It’s designed to give parents and consumers information and options for treating common health issues.

Accountant will present at Footprinters meeting

Drew Aguilar, a certified public accountant, will talk about protecting assets at Carson Valley Footprinters’ next dinner meeting on Feb. 19 at the Carson Nugget.

Evening of cowboy poetry, music planned

J’s’ Old Town Bistro, 30 Pike St. in Dayton, will present an evening of Western music and cowboy poetry with Richard Elloyan and Steve Wade at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21.

The award-winning entertainers will perform songs inspired by their love of Northern Nevada and the Wild West.

Tickets cost $33 for the show only and $39 for dinner and the show.

Southwest Gas in Fernley ending walk-in service

Fernley’s Southwest Gas office, at 5900 MacDonald Drive, will close its walk-in customer service counter at 5 p.m. Feb. 27.

Southwest Gas has cited a decrease in customer lobby traffic. No employees will lose their jobs as a result of the change.

Administrative offices and an outdoor payment kiosk will still operate at that location, as well as an operations facility providing local field support and emergency response.

Customers can view and pay their Southwest Gas bills online. Service start, stop, or move can be arranged online or by telephone.

A list of payment options, including payment stations located in the Fernley area, is available at www.swgas.com.

Nominations of young volunteers sought

The Kohl’s Cares scholarship program will award nearly $400,000 in scholarships and prizes to more than 2,500 students who have made a positive impact on their communities.

Ten national winners will each be awarded a $10,000 scholarship for higher education, and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf.

Nearly 200 students will win regional scholarships worth $1,000 toward higher education, and more than 2,000 local students will receive a $50 Kohl’s gift card.

Nominations for children ages 6-18 will be accepted through March 13 at Kohlskids.com.
