The proposed new county of Buena Vista. We must confess that we should have preferred to have a more distinctive and local-like name than Buena Vista for the proposed new county which is asked for by a part of the people of Humboldt County. Paiute would have been good; Winnemucca would have been better. But barring the inconsistencies of the name, we favor the bill as introduced, and likely to promote results of highly desirable character, bot politically as geographically.

Nevada Legislature. Twelfth Session. A.B. 32 — An Act relating to the government of the state prison. (Provides for the election of a warden for four years by the people, the same as for other state officers.) Pike moved to amend, fixing the term of office at two years. Bill passed — Ayes, 32; Nays, 7.

Assembly Bill No. 11, the divorce measure, received its first rebuff in the Senate this morning, and if that can be taken as a criterion, as its opponents claim, the seas of disapproval will be set on easy bifurcation in Nevada.

The Rambler by Wes Davis. The way all the various wars look at present, it is time for us at home to prepare for the shock of peace, each in his own way. It is up to us as individuals to guess how to meet the changing scene, for change it will, and fast.

Ned M. Fothergill, 69-year-old Carson City native and lifelong resident, died last night after a lengthy illness. Fothergill was born July 2, 1885, in Carson City and attended local schools.

A corporate income tax was to be introduced this afternoon by Assemblyman Thomas M. Godbey (D-Clark) as a means of meeting Nevada’s growing money pinch.

Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
