Food firms eligible for loan guarantees

Federal loan guarantees are possible, with an application deadline of April 1, to support production, processing and distribution of local or regionally produced foods in Nevada.

The Carson City-based state rural development office of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) said Tuesday the rural business-cooperative service, which is a branch of USDA rural development, reserves a portion of Business and Industry guaranteed loan funding for such firms.

A locally or regionally produced agricultural food products provision authorizes the loan guarantees in a bid to establish or facilitate enterprises that process, distribute, aggregate, store and/or market local or regionally produced food, according to the USDA Carson City office at 1390 S. Curry St.

To be eligible, applicants must show the food reaches end-use consumers. The contact for information is Herb Shedd in the Carson City office.
