Heavenly Mountain Resort opens new terrain after weekend snow

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — Heavenly Mountain Resort received 4 to 8 inches of new snow last Friday night and opened two additional trails the following day — High Five and Double Down. After a weekend filled with rain and snow, the resort is operating 19 lifts, accessing 30 groomed trails and 15 miles of skiable terrain.

“I’m really proud of how our staff reacted to the storm, working safely to de-rime lifts and open to the public as quickly as possible (Saturday),” said Pete Sonntag, vice president and COO of Heavenly. “This is just the first round of snow for this storm, and the timing couldn’t be better as we head into the President’s Day weekend next week.”

A bit of exotic flair is hitting South Lake Tahoe in February, as Heavenly transforms its signature Unbuckle at Tamarack après party into a little slice of Brazil with a weeklong Carnival-themed Unbuckle celebration. Each Day from Feb. 13-21, the lovely Heavenly Angels will be bedecked in extravagant Carnival costumes, and skiers and riders will have to show some impressive dance moves to earn their Carnival beads.

Half-price drinks and food specials will be offered from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. during the celebration. Extra bonus points and beads will be rewarded to those who come in proper Carnival attire.
