Thunderbirds coming to Minden

MINDEN — The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will perform in Carson Valley this summer as part of the Aviation Round-up, Aug. 22-23 at Minden-Tahoe Airport.

“I am very excited that our airport will be hosting this event for the residents of the Carson Valley,” Said Bobbi Thompson, Airport Manager. “In working with the Thunderbirds previously, I am confident this will bring out of town visitors and generate hotel room reservations, and increase retail sales.”

The Aviation Round-up will also include civilian performers and aircraft displays.

The Thunderbirds squadron is an Air Combat Command unit composed of eight pilots (including six demonstration pilots), four support officers, four civilians and more than 100 enlisted personnel performing in almost 30 job specialties. A Thunderbirds air demonstration is a mix of formation flying and solo routines. The pilots perform approximately 40 maneuvers in a demonstration. The entire show, including the ground show and air demonstration, lasts about 75 minutes.
