DUI checkpoint at Lake Tahoe for Fourth

A DUI checkpoint will be set up at Lake Tahoe in Douglas County for the Fourth of July holiday, the Nevada Highway Patrol announced Friday.

The checkpoint is being funded by a Joining Forces grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.

“Due to the fireworks display and other special events planned at Lake Tahoe, a large increase in both vehicular and pedestrian traffic expected during the holiday,” Trooper Dave Gibson said. “The increase in law enforcement presence at Lake Tahoe will help deter motorists and pedestrians from entering the roadways while impaired. In addition to the checkpoint, additional officers will be patrolling the area roadways throughout the weekend to further protect pedestrians and other motorists from impaired drivers.”

Gibson said the NHP urged motorists and pedestrians to use extra caution during this holiday and use a designated driver.

“Please buckle up and remember not to use cellular devices while operating a motor vehicle,” he said.
