Lyon County experiences flash flooding over Fourth of July weekend

Lyon County experienced heavy rainfall over the holiday weekend which caused flash flooding throughout the county.

Areas impacted include: Smith Valley:

Upper Colony Road was impacted with mud flows. Public Works crews were able to make the road passable Sunday night and will continue to work on clearing the road today. Artesia Road is covered in mud and crews will begin cleanup efforts Tuesday.

Mason Valley: East Walker Road experienced mud flows and crews will begin assessment and cleanup efforts Monday.

Silver Springs/Stagecoach: Ramsey-Weeks Cutoff was significantly impacted Sunday night but the road is open Monday morning. A number of surface streets have been impacted in the area and Public Works Crews are assessing damage and establishing priorities for cleanup.

There have been no reports of injuries or building damage as a result of the flooding and crews will be busy throughout the week cleaning roads and drainages as well as responding to flood calls throughout the week.

Normal road maintenance may be suspended until damaged areas are repaired.
