LAS VEGAS — The $10 million winner of last year’s World Series of Poker Main Event won’t get to defend his title this year, but plenty of poker pros and a few celebrities are among 4,371 players who remain in the Las Vegas showdown.
Swedish poker player Martin Jacobsen was among 6,420 entries into the poker tournament’s premiere event but last year’s winner was knocked out Tuesday.
Pro players Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey are among those who will keep playing. So will celebrities Ray Romano and Brad Garrett, stars of show “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Actor Aaron Paul of “Breaking Bad” and Phoenix Suns center Earl Barron were not so lucky.
The number of entries is lower than last year’s 6,683 and the top prize is now $7.68 million.
