150 Years Ago

Carson Mining Co. Messrs., Clark and McNeely found some rich cropping on the ledge of the Carson Mining Co. It is about two miles in a southeasterly direction from the Court House. There is in existence an extensive ledge of fine ore down about 15 feet. We need some good diggings here at Carson.

Bad blood. John Sweeney was arrested and charged with assaulting Wm. Spergeon. They had a row, and Sweeny countered on the other’s nose. The case will come before Justice Gaige.

Wood fluming begins. Fluming has begun from Sam Longabaugh’s camp back of Slide Mountain. He is supplying the Virginia and Truckee railway with 6,000 cords of wood for the locomotives and has a large force of men at work operating the sawmill.

FBI Academy. Carson City Police Sgt. Bill Furlong learned of his selection as a candidate for training at the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Police Academy.

Employee demand. More than 40 state workers appeared between the Capitol and Legislature to demand better pay and benefits stating that the Gov. Kenny Guinn must keep his promise to make raises a priority.
