Tickets on sale for Taste of Downtown on June 20

There will be plenty of bands, but once again this year the Taste of Downtown will be a battle for your taste buds the evening of Saturday, June 20.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence is hosting the 22nd annual flavor-fest that night, featuring 40 restaurants, nine bands and fun times for residents and their friends who trek to the city’s core seeking taste treats, imbibing whatever goes with their favorite foods and chatting with like-minded Epicureans. It’s the organization’s chief fund raising event each year.

The 40 restaurateurs will be serving up delectables from their varying menus for ticketholders in attendance from 5:30 until 9 p.m.

Though the bands purveying various musical genres will be posted throughout the multi-block historic downtown area set aside for the event, they’re for your listening pleasure and the real competition is to see which vendors attract buzz which tempt participants with ‘wow’ factor foods. Musical tastes, however, eventually will prevail by holding the timeline trump card.

“While the tasting ends at 9 p.m.,” the advocates organization said in a pre-event news release, “the entertainment will continue playing until 10 p.m. in Telegraph Square and on 3rd Street. Trolleys are available to transport ticketholders across 13 blocks.”

Tickets cost $40 in advance or $45 the day of the event. They went on sale June 1 and are available by various means: online at tasteofdowntowncarson.com; by telephoning (775) 883-7654; and by stopping by Classy Seconds Thrift Shop, the Purple Avocado or the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

The event has been known to sell out, said the organization, and any tickets remaining on the day of the tasting will be available at an information booth on East Proctor Street in the downtown after 11 a.m. that third Saturday of June.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence is a private, not-for-profit organization formed in 1979 that grew from a two bedroom apartment operation to a full service program with a 51 bed shelter. It provides a variety of services to help protect and support battered women and their children, It also operates Classy Seconds as another means of raising money, and it puts on the tasting event each summer,
