Put parking garages on side streets

I’ve been away from Carson City (my home of 40 years) for six months and was distressed to learn of the future plans for Main Street. This is my opinion. Honk if you agree!

Parking garages should be located on east side streets, not Main Street.

Remember the Ormsby House garage fiasco? While in the Ormsby House at the second story buffet and the west side hotel rooms, your view was blocked by an ugly multi-story garage. No longer were the beautiful mountains, sunsets and the C on the hill to be seen.

The same will be true when the Nugget west side parking lot that housed the Nevada Day “jack hammer,” ice rink (lovely to see people out skating while driving down Main Street), car shows and concert venues becomes an ugly parking garage.

No more looking out of the Carson City Nugget second story convention room on Nevada Day (or any day) to view the mountains and the happenings in the parking lot across the street.

What are you thinking, city fathers?

Reverse your plan to utilizing the west side parking lot into a plaza to be seen by all traveling on Main Street, and use Stewart Street as a garage. Do not block out the beauty of the west side of Main Street!
