500 without power in Carson City

About 500 people in Carson City were without power for a few hours Monday afternoon after high winds hit the area.

A tree was reported down in front of the state Capitol and one building reported damage, but power was restored to a majority of the customers by 3 p.m.

The winds damaged at least one building and downed a tree in front of the state Capitol in Carson City.

The storm delayed the start of school at Lake Tahoe. The National Weather Service has issued a high lake wind advisory effective through 7 p.m. Monday for Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake. Sustained winds up to 25 mph were creating waves at both lakes up to 3-feet high.

About an inch of snow was reported at Tahoe City, California. The cold snap is expected to be short-lived with highs in Reno back into the mid-60s by Wednesday and mid-70s by Friday.
