The circus. Many were deterred after hearing there was no performance due to the Washoe Zephyr (high wind). But there was a performance in spite of the wind and a full tent. The riding, tumbling and acrobats are first class. We recommend this circus to our friends. There will be a matinee to which the Orphan children are invited.

All sorts. John Sweeny is grafting peaches and apples into the sagebrush. He says the fruit from this is unsurpassed in flavor and hardiness and the frosts do not affect it.

Honorary degrees. Honorary degree of doctor of laws were conferred upon Maj. Max C. Fleischmann, philanthropist; Ann Henrietta Martin, educator and civic leader; Brewster Adams, Reno clergyman, and Patrick A. McCarran, senior United States senator from Nevada.

Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
