Community sports: Hoop shoot winners move on to Reno competition

Abner Lowe (12-13 boys), Riley Mello (12-13 girls), Kristyn Webb (10-11 girls) and Mae Sharpe (8-9 girls) all won first place at the Tahoe-Douglas Elks Hoop Shoot on Nov. 14. The next level of competition will be in Reno in January. Zach Pena was second in 12-13 boys and Chad Maricich was third. Amber Long was second in 12-13 girls, while Brylee Modispacher was second in 10-11 girls and Logan Karwoski was third.

Jr. Pee-Wee Senators lose finale

Carson dropped a 20-7 decision to the Reno Wolf Pack at Golden Eagle Regional Park on Saturday.

Reno scored its touchdowns on long runs. Carson’s only score came on a Eduardo Orozco to Alex Myrehn pass. Myrehn had seven catches for 92 yards.

Decarlo Quintana had four catches for 61 yards, Parker Story had 42 yards rushing and Zach Guthrie had a 62-yard kick-off return. Keagan Ferris and Jacob Campbell each had an interception, while Quentin Beck (6), Evan Bacarella (6), Nate McKee (5), Eli Foutz (5), Myrehn (5) and Caid Milligan (4) led the tacklers.

Dayton Valley still open

The Dayton Valley Golf Club is open for play.

The cost is $35 a week each day before noon, which includes a cart, range balls and a drink of your choice. The cost drops to $25 after noon, and that just includes a cart.

Smitreski group wins at CVGC

Ken Smitreski, Marc Prause and Jim Howard shot a net 54 to win Flight A at the team scramble at Carson Valley Golf Course on Nov. 8

Bob Pemberton, Dennis Patterson, Jesus Rey and Don Henderson were second at 60.

Paul Finan, David Morris, Roger Hala and Bruce Sanford won Flight B with a 61 while Frank Tisiot, Chuck Householder, Paul Lockwood and Joe Morrison were second with a 62. Jim Arens, Gary Carste, Larry Lockwood and Matt Lindsey tied with Neil Bain, Jack Zippwald and Jim Tavernier for first place in Flight C. Both teams shot 67s.
