Hamilton’s war claims. The White Pine News of Saturday prints the following: Lieutenant Governor Adams was in town during the first part of the week, for the purpose of examining and auditing all claims against the state for indebtedness incurred by the militia during the late Indian trouble. He left on Tuesday for Pioche, to examine and audit the indebtedness of Lincoln County.

Rancher Sweeny has our acknowledgment for a potato weighing a pound. We suppose this was the boss of the list until William Musgrove sent in two weighing each nearly two ounces more than Sweeny’s.

The bishop of Nevada, Right Rev. G.C. Hunting, and the eight clergymen of the Episcopal church in Nevada, will meet in Carson on Tuesday for a conference on various phases of religious work in this state.

T/Sgt. Sharon H. Wasson, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. Wasson, recently was discharged form the armed services after serving two-and-a-half years with the Army Air Forces. He was overseas in the European theater with the 487th bomb group as an aerial engineer. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the air medal with four oak leaf clusters and four battle stars. He flew 35 combat missions.

20th inmate flees state prison here. A 39-year-old inmate was presumed escaped today from the state prison ranch after turning up missing during a routine check Sunday afternoon. “We’re still combing the ranch, but I think we’re going to have to assume he escaped,” Warden Jack Fogliani said. Otis L. Stephens, the inmate, had suffered epileptic fits before and may have fallen into the bushes.

The Board of Supervisors gave the not Thursday for an afternoon music festival at T-Car Speedway on Nevada Day. Highlighting the music festival will be the Elvin Bishop Band, performers of “Fooled Around and Fell in Love.”
Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
