Community roundup: CMS girls win TahNeva hoop crown

The Carson Middle School eighth-grade girls won the TahNeva title over the weekend with a 29-22 win over Pau Wa Lu.

CMS finished the season with a 17-1 record.

In the championship game, Bella Kordonowy led the way with 16 points. Haley Trost added six and Lily Bouza five.

CMS reached the finals with a 30-5 win over North Tahoe and a 40-9 win over Lake Tahoe School. Kordonowy scored nine and Bouza added seven in the opening-round victory. In the semifinal win, Bouza led the way with 15 and Kordonowy added 14.

CMS runners fare

well at Tah Neva

Carson Middle School’s eighth-grade girls took second place and the seventh-grade boys were third at the TahNeva meet at Kahle Park last week.

Eighteen school competed in the event with more than 400 runners in action.

Gabby Fernandez placed fourth to lead the CMS girls on the hilly 2.63-mile course.

Teammate Hannah Kaiser was fifth. Ava Covington, Jaidyn Shepard and Julia Kaiser were the other scoring runners for CMS. Parker Lehmann led the seventh-grade boys with a fourth-place finish, as the top four finishers beat the 22-year-old record on the 2.13-mile loop. Isaac Harrison, Eli Blakeney, Enrique Lemus and Bryce Lehmann also scored for CMS. Zach Sever was fifth and Alex Pugh sixth to lead the CMS eighth-grade boys to a fifth place finish.

Brooke Gudmunson was 39th to lead CMS in the seventh-grade girls race.

Sparman wins at

Carson Valley

Jack Sparman shot a net 50 to win the Par-3 tournament at Carson Valley Golf Course last weekend.

All the par 4s and 5s were shortened to par-3 length. Fred Coons shot 52 and Charles Poe 53 to round out the Flight A group.

Diane Van Nort won Flight B with a net 52 in a tiebraker over Matt Budjako. Augie Martinez was third with a 55. Mel Van Ness won Flight C with a 52, three shots better than Bob Van Nort and five better than Jack Zippwald.

• Frank Tisiot, Joe Morrison and Gerry Paulsen shot a net 50 win Flight A at the scramble event at Carson Valley.

The teams of Roger Hala, Jesus Ray, Joe Bourgeois and Marc Menezes, and Jack Sparman, Charles Serafine, Charles Poe and Dan Essary tied for second with 52s.

John Pearson, Brent Holderman, Gerry Bing and John Carey won Flight B with a 41, five shots clear of David Morris, Gary Carsten, Bruce Sandford and Jim Arens.

Milligan wins flight

at Empire Ranch

Bill Milligan compiled 48 points to win Flight A at the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club Stableford Tournament last week.

Geoff Swann was second with 46 and Bill Hetherton was third at 45. Rich Torok won Flight B with a 45, three points ahead of Dick Blankenship, Dennis Justin, Lee Ghiggeri and Al Giannotti. Steve Isaacson won Flight C with a 41, one point better than Joe O’Brien and Kurt Cleek. Joe Gibson won Flight D with a 49, Tony Grinceri had a 46 and Marty Martinez finished with a 44.

Two champs from

Silver Stage

Cyrus Crane, 14, and Rylee Crain, 12, won middle school races recently for Silver Stage.

Cyrus Crain was clocked in 12:20 for the 2-plus mile course. Rylee Crain’s time was not reported.

Carson blanked

by Douglas, 30-0

Douglas shut down Carson’s run game and cruised to an easy 30-0 win last weekend.

The only offense Carson could muster was the passing of Zach Guthrie to Decarlo Quintana and Keegan Ferris.

Jacob Campbell and Eli Foutz were solid on defense with six and five tackles, respectively. Isaac Avina hasd six stops and a forced fumble while Robert Henn had a fumble recovery and a sack.
