Carson City Halloween and Nevada Day events

Between Nevada Day and Halloween, Carson City is gearing up for a busy holiday weekend.

Carson Tahoe Health’s annual Spooktacular event is from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the north parking lot of Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, 1600 Medical Parkway. Call 775-445-5169.

The 3rd Annual Monster Mash — with trick-or-treating from 4 to 7 p.m. — is Thursday in the Nugget Hall of the Aspen Building at Western Nevada College. There will be music, costume contests, food and more from 4 to 10:30 p.m.

RSVP’s 30th annual Nevada Day Fair runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday; from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. All-day ride wristbands cost $30 each, and $20 in advance through Thursday at Carson City Toyota Scion. Discount coupons are available for $5 at www.nevadaruralrsvp.org. This year’s carnival also includes Days of Service events — a food drive for FISH and police information; veterans services; and support group suicide prevention booths — from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Trick-or-treating in Carson City is on Friday. Halloween at the Governor’s Mansion is also on Friday.

The Downtown Business Association’s Candy Crawl is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday in downtown Carson City. Go to www.downtowncarson.org.

Carson Mall’s Annual Safe Trick-or-Treat event is from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday.

Children are invited to dress up for trick-or-treating at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada’s Safe Halloween Celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Admission is free for adults and $5 per child. Call 775-884-2226.

History buffs can take a look at the history of Carson City’s east side during the annual East Side Tour, led by Nevada Day Parade Director Bernie Allen. The free tour begins at 10 a.m. Friday at the Capitol steps. Call Allen at 775-883-7264.

Check out Nevada State Museum’s newest exhibit — Ranching in the High Desert: Five Generations, One Family — when the museum offers free admission from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Call 775-687-4810.

Weather permitting, hot air balloons will float above Carson Street and open parade day when they launch with the help of the Great Reno Balloon Race at 8 a.m. near the Carson Mall on Carson Street. Call Stephen Lincoln at 775-841-1000.

The Carson Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons will host a pancake breakfast from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lodge dining room, 113 E. Washington St. The cost is only $5 and the proceeds will benefit Carson Lodge’s Historical Building Maintenance Fund and Carson Lodge’s youth organizations. More than 400 runners and walkers will participate in the annual Nevada Day Classic 8K Run and 2 Mile Run/Walk. The 41st Annual Nevada Day World Championship Single Jack Drilling Contest is at 11:05 a.m. in the Carson Nugget’s west parking lot. Entry costs $50.

The 34th annual Nevada Day Chili Feed will be hosted by Senator Dean Heller and will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the Carson Nugget Ballroom.

Old-fashioned band music will fill the Amphitheater of Carson City’s Legislative Mall as Capital City Community Band — opening its 38th season — presents its free Nevada Day concert at 2 p.m. Call Richard Doede at 775-883-2219.

The tradition of Bloody Marys on Nevada Day will continue as Alatte’s will provide a Bloody Mary Bar and Patio. Hot dogs, coffee, hot chocolate and a wine bar will also be featured. The Alatte Patio will open at 8 a.m.
