A capacity audience attended the concluding Nevada Day event last night in civic auditorium when the 1864 fashion and variety show was staged, along with the traditional ball.
Highlight of the evening was the parade of period fashions, which included everything from original gowns and replicas of those worn in 1864 era, to gowns worn in the early 1900s. Narrating this phase of the show was Mrs. Gertrude Badt.
On the comedy side, bathing fashions of the era were also shown in a skit prepared by the models.
The variety show was kept at a lively pace by emcee William Crowell.
In addition to the announced program, also appearing in the variety show were Badwater Bill and Smiley Washburn in the comedy musical presentation; Concord, Calif., Unicycle group; precision drilling by the Las Vegas Emblem Club; and a magic act by Durward Yasmer.
The evening was climaxed by the grand march preceding the dance, led by Gov. and Mrs. Charles Russell, and participated in by all those present in 1864 attire.
