The former owners of Sharkey’s Casino in Gardnerville have settled the complaint filed by the Gaming Control Board, accepting a $12,000 fine and the loss of the parent company’s license to operate the Sundance Casino in Winnemucca.
Sharkey’s operators in the Holder Group LLC were charged with failing to maintain the required bankroll on site in May of 2014 and again on eight more occasions in October.
Casinos are required to maintain a certain level of cash on hand or to shut down some machines or tables in order to ensure winning customers can be paid.
In addition, investigators charged Sharkey’s didn’t have the proper financial information to help them complete their audit of the operation in 2013. The casino operators also lost players club points patrons had accumulated during the same period and lacked other required paperwork to allow investigators and auditors to ensure slot hold percentages were within legal limits from May through November of 2014. The complaint charged the casino operators didn’t maintain mandatory cage documents and reduced progressive payoff schedules to zero when no player had won a progressive payoff.
Sharkey’s re-opened for business under new ownership this past April.
There were several violations reported at the Sundance Casino included in the 19-count complaint. The stipulated agreement settling the case also puts the Sundance on a tight schedule to be sold to another licensee.
