The Pioneer Stages leave here for California at 6 1/2 o’clock every morning from this on until further orders and, as we understand, they will make fast time. We hope they will, but Dutch Flat and the uncertainty of coming events give us the nightmare every now and then.

The balance of the laundry machinery, all except one piece, arrived yesterday and was quite an object of curiosity all day. The mangler and centrifugal wringer attracted the most attention. They are the latest improvement in wash machinery, and will do more in five minutes than a one-horse wash house will do in one week.

Dr. Rolf Passer, one-time student of Freud and metal telepathy expert, evidently concluding the only way to convince a hard-bitten newspaper man of the authenticity of his act, gave a private demonstration in our editorial rooms. It is really the most amazing performance we have ever saw.

A sheriff’s posse raided the Big Sur area Tuesday and arrested for trespassing some 14 persons in beatnik costume. The Monterey County sheriff led a party of 10 deputies in response to a complaint from a swanky Pebble Beach landowner.

Douglas County Democrats called for the enactment of a state lottery, an end to nuclear testing, the creation of a national park in Nevada and the reintroduction of the Equal Rights Amendment at the county convention Saturday.
