Nearby residents of a proposed 80-acre, mixed-use development are holding a community meeting Monday to discuss possible action in response to the project.
The organizers plan to discuss how the development would affect the west side neighborhood and Carson City and the “importance of a unified group with a collective voice,” as well as the possibility of preserving the land as open space.
The meeting agenda also includes a look at the project’s density, land use compatibility, and impact on neighboring viewscapes.
The public meeting is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Fritsch Elementary School auditorium.
A packed public meeting was held there April 7 by representatives of the developer, designer and planner to outline the development and answer residents’ questions.
About 300 people attended the meeting and many voiced opposition to the project in its entirety or as it’s currently designed.
The Vintage at Kings Canyon is a planned unit development project on the Andersen Ranch property, located between Mountain Street and Ormsby Boulevard and west of Ormsby to Kings Canyon Road.
The proposed project still is on the drawing board. It has gone through a conceptual review process with multiple Carson City departments, which provide feedback so the developer can address issues before submitting it to the Planning Commission to start the formal approval process.
The first phase of the development would be on about 20 acres of land starting at Mountain Street and would include senior housing comprising 32 units for independent living, 128 units for assisted living and 39 detached cottages ranging in size from 1,700 to 2,100 square feet.
