SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: More Law Dogs for Carson City

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the nine new deputies who were sworn in last week to serve with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office: Ramon Montiaivo, Meri Jesse, Juan Echeverria, Tulio Marroquin, Kyle Smith, Daniel Gelbman and Joshua Valdes will serve as reserve deputies, Donna Robinson will serve as a mounted host officer and Jordan Hadlock will serve as a full-time deputy. Also to the 33 officers who were sworn in Friday to serve with the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all of Carson High’s seniors for completing their senior projects and for the hard work they put into the community service projects.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Carson City Library’s Browsers Corner Bookstore, which celebrated its second anniversary.

WOODEN NICKEL: To those who vandalized the Brad Bonkowski campaign signs and shot out the window at Hannifan’s Antiques. This kind of childish activity obviously has no place in politics. No matter which candidate you support — or oppose — fight that candidate with ideas, not criminal behavior.
