Nevada Appeal at 150: Jan. 15, 1940: Premiere of movie ‘Virginia City’ coming to Nevada

All that was lacking today was a couple of signatures on the dotted line to have Virginia City become the scene of the picture industry’s next big premiere.

Most of the preliminary details had been ironed out in preparation for Warner Bros.’ bringing of “Virginia City” to Virginia City early in April.

The flies that got in the unguent at first included getting the city of Reno and environs to put up the transportation to bring a trainload of movie stars, and the fact that the studio wanted to show the film in February, which would have been a bad month in this part of the country.

Errol Flynn is star of the picture, which is supposed to bring back the days of the Comstock.

This continues the Appeal’s review of news stories and headlines during its Sesquicentennial year.
