Nevada’s black eye: It is said that the fun poked at Vassar College (a most excellent young ladies school, by the way) about the gum chewing and sliding down banisters, etc., has almost ruined the school. The Eastern press is constantly alluding to it as “the rotten borough,” (Reveille).

Sells Brothers Great Circus and menagerie will exhibit here. Probably there is no entertainment which furnishes so much harmless recreation as the well-conducted circus. The starting feats of the equestrians follow each other in rapid succession, followed by the humorous actions of the clowns.

Nevada and good roads: As stated in the Appeal’s dispatches three or four days ago the first award of the government to the different states for road purposes was made and Nevada’s share is something over $64,000. Nevada’s share over five years will be $1,400,000.

A Reno environmentalist on Friday accused the Bureau of Land Management of not moving swiftly to stop the death of birds in a cyanide pond near Gabbs. “Nine hundred migratory birds have been killed since April,” said the Sierra Club’s Rose Strickland.
Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
