Reno-area health officials find mosquitoes with West Nile

LAS VEGAS — Health officials in Reno are reporting the discovery of West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes in Washoe County, in the Lemmon Valley area.

The Washoe County Health District didn’t report that any humans were infected.

It said officials will increase insecticide fogging and trapping to monitor mosquito activity.

Health officials say people can help prevent being bitten by mosquitoes by wearing pants and long sleeve shirts during morning and evening hours, and using insect repellent.

Residents can also remove standing water where mosquitoes can breed, make sure door and window screens are in good repair and use mosquito fish in troughs and water features.
